Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) is a member of the pea family with alternate, three lobed leaves and dark pink, densely packed flowers. Native to Europe, western Asia, and northwest Africa, red clover flower is now naturalized worldwide and is often found in meadow spaces. Red cover blossoms make a lovely, nourishing addition to herbal tea blends and extracts.

The flower heads are collected in full bloom, during the summer months. Druids believed that it could ward off evil spells and witches, while Medieval Christians believed that the three lobed leaves were associated with the trinity and the four lobed leaves as a symbol of the cross.

Used in herbalism for  lymphatic  congestion, swollen  lymph  nodes,  skin  issues  and  cleansing  the  blood. Red  clover  has  been  used  for  hot  flashes  during  menopause as  well  as  for  circulation  and  thinning  the  blood.

Red Clover contains a range of vitamins, minerals, protein (15-20%), and phytosterols -basically plant chemicals that our gut flora can turn into hormones.  Red Clover phyotsterols are often called phytoestrogens.  They are known to turn into a compound that mimics estrogen, binding to our receptors, thereby blocking the more harmful estrogens, including our own estradiol and xenoestrogens from our environment.
