Mutual Aid at Kindred

Kindred has always been more than a store. It’s been a gathering place, a little corner of Vancouver where people could slow down, refill, connect, and feel held. It’s been built on love, community, and a whole lot of stubborn hope.

Community care has *always* been at the core of what we do. From partnering with organizations like the Vancouver Free Fridge, installing Urban Abundance resiliency gardens, providing home & personal care products to folks in need, and consistently showcasing the gift economy to Vancouver through our bi-weekly swaps.

If this space has ever meant something to you, or if you believe Vancouver needs places like this, we’re asking for your support. Even $5 a month can help us keep going — not to grow, just to stay. To keep showing up. To keep the lights on. To keep doing what we do. Thanks for being part of it.

What is Mutual Aid?

Programs We Support

The Vancouver Free Fridge

The Vancouver Free Fridge is a community-funded, grassroots resource that provides fresh food and pantry items to those in need. Located in the parking lot behind Kindred this resource offers our neighbors safe and reliable access to food with respect and dignity.

Mutual Aid Lockers

The Mutual Aid locker is a free offering to community members to provide them with essential hygienic products. We provide menstruation products, diapers, reproductive health products and household care products for anyone who may need them. No questions asked.

Urban Abundance Resiliency Gardens

Urban Abundance is a local nonprofit focused on demystifying the process of growing your own food, and the Resiliency Garden program puts those gardens in publicly accessible spaces. At Kindred we host four raised garden beds where community members are encouraged to tend to the plants and reap the bounty of Earth's gifts.

Donation Drop Offs

Kindred is host to many local non-profit drop off points. Whether it's second-hand pet supplies for our furry friends or craft supplies for families in shelters, Kindred is proud to be a central hub for people helping one another. We host numerous, rotating, donation drop offs for several non-profits throughout the year.
