Locally Adapted Seeds | Rythym Seed Farm
Born from pandemic-era shortages and a deep commitment to food justice, Rhythm Seed Farm (RSF) is a Portland-based nonprofit cultivating locally adapted, open-pollinated seeds designed to thrive in our region’s unique climate. Founded by botanist Nick Canino, RSF rejects industrial monoculture in favor of regenerative, pollinator-friendly farming—and donates half its seeds to low-income and BIPOC communities to build a more equitable food system.
Why Choose RSF Seeds?
🌱 Locally Adapted – Selected for resilience to Pacific Northwest pests, diseases, and weather extremes.
🌻 Open-Pollinated – Save and replant your seeds year after year (no corporate hybrids!).
🐝 Pollinator-Friendly – Grown without synthetic pesticides, protecting bees and soil life.
♻️ Regenerative Farming – Cultivated using organic methods that rebuild topsoil and biodiversity.
✊ Food Justice in Action – 50% of seeds go to under-served communities—your purchase supports this mission.
The Story: Seeds of Resistance & Abundance
When the 2020 seed shortage hit, RSF pivoted from buying seeds to saving them—harvesting millions from 100+ crops (veggies, fruits, medicinals, and flowers). Today, their urban farm in Cully features:
-
Two greenhouses + a "bean palace" for seed drying
-
Five beehives to support native pollinators
-
A volunteer-powered model
Values Rooted in Community
🌎 Mutual Aid – Between people, plants, and pollinators.
🌦️ Climate Resilience – Crops bred to withstand erratic weather.
🍅 Abundance, Not Scarcity – Everyone deserves access to organic food, regardless of income.
