Lion’s mane, or Hericium erinaceus, is an edible mushroom that grows throughout the Northern Hemisphere, thriving on dead or dying hardwoods. Its common name is derived from its appearance, growing in a clump of white, hair-like spines that cascade from its base.
In countries such as Korea, Japan, India and China, lion’s mane has been used for centuries in cooking, as well as traditional medicine. Packed with vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin, it’s a very nutritious supplement, while also being a good source of essential minerals like manganese, zinc, and potassium. Lion’s mane has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries as a digestive aid and has more recently been studied for other wellness supporting properties, specifically as a nerve tonic.
