Intoducing: The Dry Pantry, Non-Alcoholic Wines, Beers, Spirits, and Mixers at Kindred

I quit drinking in January. I have been sober for a couple of months now, and some days, boy, do I miss wine. I started exploring alternatives but the only place I found them available was in the far back corner of Total Wine. They were asking non-drinking folks to walk past aisle after aisle of alcohol to get to a measly selection of mostly IPA’s. It didn’t feel right for me. I thought, is this something I can bring into Kindred? My team and I talked about carving out a pantry section and so I did.

For various reasons, folks may choose non-alcoholic beverages over their alcoholic counterparts. Health considerations often top the list, as some people seek to reduce their alcohol intake for physical well-being or manage conditions such as liver disease. Others abstain from alcohol for mental health reasons or addiction recovery. Additionally, religious beliefs and cultural practices play a significant role in opting for non-alcoholic drinks. Pregnancy is another common reason, as expectant mothers avoid alcohol to ensure the health of their unborn child. Some individuals may be taking medications that interact negatively with alcohol and thus choose non-alcoholic options to avoid complications.

Moreover, an increasing number of people are embracing the sober-curious movement, experimenting with alcohol-free living to enhance clarity and mindfulness. Furthermore, some prefer non-alcoholic beverages simply for their taste and the ability to enjoy them without the effects of alcohol. Lastly, designated drivers and individuals with professional commitments may opt for non-alcoholic beverages to remain alert and responsible. Regardless of the reason for you, we decided to stock the best of the best when it comes to the non-alcoholic option.

Non-alcoholic Drinks at Kindred Vancouver

Let’s dive into the brands we have so far:

Athletic Brewing

As with most things in the shop, there are many factors to consider when choosing brands. We love the selection that Athletic Brewing offers and they absolutely nail it with flavor. From IPA’s and lagers, to dark and even coffee-infused options. There’s something here for anyone looking for a tasty non-alcoholic option.

Wilderton Botanical Spirits

These vibrant botanical spirits are crafted by distilling an eclectic mix of botanicals that bring together the wonders of herbs, the vivaciousness of spices, and the zing of citrus. It’s like a symphony of flavors playing to create that perfect harmony. They’re not trying to be anything else - whiskey, rum, etc. They have a flavor profile all their own!

Seedlip

Seedlip is an enchanting blend of distilled herbs, spices, peels, and barks, crafted to perfection. And of course – it’s not just about what’s in the bottle; it’s about style and sustainability. Seedlip comes in sleek, earth-conscious packaging that shouts ‘fabulous’ and whispers’ I care about the planet’. 🌍💚

Ritual

From the sophisticated ‘Whiskey Alternative’ that brings smoky, oak-barrelled goodness to your glass, to the snappy ‘Gin Alternative’ that zings with botanicals, and the smooth ‘Tequila Alternative’ perfect for those margarita nights, Ritual has got all the bases covered. Not only does Ritual bring flavor to the forefront, but it also ensures your wellness doesn’t take a backseat with a low-calorie count (if you’re counting).

Joyus

I get it. I really get it. Not drinking is hard. It’s terrible to feel like you’re missing out. Jess, the founder says: For over 16 years I’ve pounded cran and soda at girls’ night. I toasted sparkling apple cider at my own wedding. And, let’s be honest, it gets old. I created these delicious wines so people everywhere could have an adult option that was as close to the real thing as possible. Our non-alcoholic wines taste, feel and look like real wine, just with the alcohol removed. The only non-alcoholic wine on the market to win GOLD in an industry wine competition - so there’s that 😉

Noughty

For those looking to skip the alcohol but not the celebration, Noughty is like a dream come true. It’s a sparkling Chardonnay that promises the fizz, the taste, and the clink of glasses, all without the alcohol. We brought this one in mostly to meet folks at their comfort level. Joyus has 0.5% alcohol, about as much as orange juice or kombucha. But for those who would rather have 0.0%, Noughty is for you!

Canned Mocktails

We’ve brought in several brands we think you’ll love! From Fauxmosa - perfect for brunch (or breakfast for dinner?), and Parch Spirits - perfect on a hot summer day.

Canned Sodas

We’ve also brought in some sodas to use as mixers or simply to enjoy on their own. We currently have botanical sodas by Casamara Club - Each of these leisure sodas tastes like a special occasion without being too sweet for everyday enjoyment, making it perfectly refreshing to drink on its own and excellent for pairing with food. We also brought in Tepache fermented beverages by De La Calle. This fermented beverage has been made in Mexico for centuries. Thousands of versions of Tepache exist, each varying in the spices or flavorings used but the core of it all is pineapples. De La Calle uses certified organic pineapples to create their Tepache and we promise you this -- it’s delicious and unlike anything else you’ve tasted.

Mixers

It’s easy to get carried away here so we wanted to focus on bringing in thoughtful items that were outside of the norm that you might see elsewhere. For starters, alcohol-free bitters by All The Bitter. Designed by former French Laundry sommeliers for the mindful drinking movement. These are handmade in Northern California. These cocktail bitters taste great and contain goodies that may benefit digestion and liver health. And for easy cocktail mixing, Camp Craft Cocktail Kits - sealed in a glass jar, these sweet lil sets are perfect for gifts and gatherings. Each jar makes up to 8 cocktails!
