Starting a Business in the Middle of a Pandemic
I should start by saying that the seed for this shop was planted long before COVID-19 took over all of our lives. For the last three years I've felt submerged in a litany of emotions and I just couldn't seem to get my feet on the steady ground.
From losing my mother, to the birth of my first child — I had lots of expectations about how I should feel, and why what I was feeling was wrong. I realized that what I was missing was a community.
So I decided to quit my day job and went on a mission to find the people, and purpose, that I needed - I knew they must be out there. I found meaning, uncomplicated joy, and comfort in my garden. And that's where I found them — my people. Kindred Spirits.
Suddenly I found myself lost in hours of conversation about gardening, propagation, composting, worms, the incredible waste-stream, etc. We all agreed that we can be the change. We can make better choices, we can help educate those around us, we can leave this world better than we found it — together.
So I decided to send up a beacon: Kindred Homestead Supply.
A place for like-minded folk to gather, converse, shop for low-waste products, learn, grow, share, and exist together.
All are welcome. Come as you are.
It's a crazy time to be starting a business. And I believe it's worth doing. Because we need it. Our world needs it. I need it.
I hope to see you soon, my friend.
