Celebrating Earth Day, The Kindred Way
You’ve probably already guessed this, but it’s our favorite time of the year. It’s as if the Earth is celebrating herself with blossoming trees, sprouts poking through the soil, and the sweet smell of Spring breaking through the grey days of winter. So as Earth focuses on regeneration and bringing forth another glorious growing season, what better way is there to celebrate how much she gives than to give our time and efforts as well?
Here are some of our favorite ideas for volunteering on Earth Day:
NEIGHBORHOOD TRASH PICK-UP
Sometimes, the simplest acts can have a monumental impact. Dress comfortably, grab a pair of gardening gloves, and your stash of used plastic bags that still have some life left in them to separate recyclables and trash. Bring a friend or the whole family along with you for lively conversation and consider setting-up a celebratory end-goal, like hot chocolate and a movie or a glass of champagne to toast Earth Day! Bonus points: bring along a canister to stash any compostables you pick up along the way.
PLANT TREES OR NATIVE PLANTS
Reintroducing non-invasive native plants or planting saplings is a great way to do a little bit of extra labor for some major long-term environmental payoff. If you live in a rented space, check in with your landlord, although you would be hard pressed to hear a “no” when it comes to free landscaping! Another option is to connect with your local environmental clubs and conservancy
groups, many of which organize tree planting opportunities around Earth Day.
However you choose to celebrate, Happy Earth Day, Kindreds! We are so honored to be a part of this growing movement to honor and protect this beautiful planet. Comment below with your Earth Day plans!
